Metals make up only a small part of our waste stream on campus, about 1%. Recycling scrap metals is very easy because it is easily identifiable and very few areas of campus actually produce significant amounts of it. It is a very valuable commodity. Diverting metal from the landfill is important because it can take up a lot of space and we can pay hefty tipping fees for dumping such heavy material.
What We Recycle
All scrap metals, both ferrous and non-ferrous.
How We Recycle
One container is located on campus to accept scrap metal. This bin is used mostly by Facilities Management employees. If your department produces large quantities of scrap metal please contact us.
Where Does It Go?
Our scrap metal is picked up by Metal Management of Arizona where it is sorted. The scrap currently goes from there to several scrap dealers to be remanufactured into metal products.
