Phonebooks are now recycled year-round to remove the nearly 40,000 directories delivered to campus. This amounts to about 46 tons of waste. The easy identification and targeting of phonebooks in offices makes recycling easy. To cut down on this waste all together, we encourage everyone to simply use the on-line UA Directory. This ensures that you always have the most up-to-date information and reduces the amount of phonebooks that must be delivered and recycle on campus.
What We Recycle
UA Directories, Qwest Directories, and any other phonebooks.
How We Recycle
For year-round recycling, gather phonebooks in a centralized area or call our office for a bin. The phonebooks are brought back to our yard and dumped into larger bins. In addition, two programs are run in the Fall, one to target local directories and one for UA directories. Custodians put up "Place Your Phonebooks Here" signs in every building. Building occupants put their phonebooks under the signs, and RJM staff takes them to our yard. Recycle America, our current vendor, empties the bins.
Where Does It Go?
Our phonebooks are taken to the Recycle America yard at Prince and I-10 to be weighed. They are shipped from there to Green Fiber in Phoenix, where they are made into building insulation.
