Corrugated Cardboard

Corrugated cardboard is a major portion of what the UA discards. Each year we recycle about 260 tons of corrugated cardboard. There are many areas of campus that receive boxed items on a regular basis.

What We Recycle
Please recycle your corrugated cardboard (identified by the wavy inner layer).

How We Recycle

Cardboard must have all trash and packing materials removed, and must be broken down, or flattened. Your custodian will take cardboard out to a designated area in back of your building or you may place cardboard in one of the areas. Containers and recycling areas exist in back of most campus buildings. There are 48 cardboard recycling areas on campus. Please contact us for your nearest location. From there the cardboard is picked up by a full-time employee who takes the cardboard back to our compound for baling. The finished bales are then picked up by our current vendor, Recycle America.

Where Does It Go?
Our cardboard is taken to the Recycle America yard at Prince and I-10 to be weighed and shipped. The cardboard currently goes from there to either Abitibi Consolidated in Snowflake, AZ where it is made into cardboard and box board medium, or to McKinley Paper Company in Prewitt, NM where it is made into packaging boxes, box liners, and shoe paper.
